Here's some primary moto modding tools.  Largely now replaced by Flex Editor’s abilities, although still used widely. This program will allow you to create directories on your phone which is still rather unique. Updated March 11, 2006. 

Necessary drivers for modding your Motorola phone. They usually come bundled with P2K programs like P2K Commander, or P2K Manager. They're also provided standalone. Just install the drivers and away you go. Automated Method for Installing P2K Drivers (New Method for Installing P2K Drivers).   

P2K driver installation has always been a pain - often involving searching Google for warez.

Now, there is a much simpler method -  

• Download the driver archive from the download button below
• Extract the install file from the .zip file located on the download button below
•  Follow the installation instructions here
•  Start from section 3.2 for the software install instructions and section 4.2 for the driver installation
•  This works on Windows XP and 2000

OK, so this program finally works with the V3x !!!.  Yeah it does and you can download a trial version or purchase the full version from here

Great All-in-one program which does seem editing, seem comparison, flex backup, phone explorer (read/write), feature specific enabling, and much more! Updated 9 November 2006 courtesy of Cash7c3. Must have RSD Lite 2.4, (NOT 2.5) or higher installed. Start RSD Lite  first to connect your phone, then start LeaderGL Flex Editor and make sure you're in "Normal Mode" (see green status box in the diagram below).

Motorola Media Studio 2.5 is, in my opinion, one of the best solutions for ripping DVDs and other video sources into a format that plays extremely well on the V3x.  Again, IMO, it is easier to use than SUPER.  Download a trial copy, or purchase a registered copy here :

Another tool used in the creation of Reflashes.  This is warez so I can't post a link to it so Google is your best friend.

• In MS Windows, you can create folders on the v3x using Moto4Lin. You can also use P2K Commander to create folders as well but the benefit of using Moto4Lin over P2K Commander is that it provides a windows explorer-like view of all the drives on your handset.  So, you can use Moto4lin to create skin folders and manually upload the skin files to their proper locations on the handset.  Moto4lin can also delete folders from the handset so be careful. You just need to empty all the files in them first just like you would with P2K Commander.  Moto4Lin is also great to use if you want to back-up all or your SEEMS.
•  Setup: Settings>Preferences Note: You’ll have to set you COM Port before you can use Moto4Lin. Look under your computer’s “Device Manager” to see what your connecting com port is for your Motorola USB modem. Mine happens to be COM4 but yours may be different. Set “AT vendor” to 0000. To connect, Start RSD Lite 2.7 and minimize it so it runs in the background, then start Moto4Lin. It should show a “connected” status when it opens.

(Update 22 Sep 2006):  Thanx to i-paw for the following:

• You can create folders using Moto4Lin but you  need to upload a file as soon as you do because if you don't , you have no way of going back to it as Moto4lin won't read it if it is empty. Same goes with deleting a folder. You need to delete the folder right after emptying it. I've been using it to create my skin folders and upload skin files.  In fact I use it to read and write seems as well.

Module based program to create/save/edit skins for your Motorola phone. You want to take a screenshot of exactly what you see on your mobile phone screen, no matter in which menu you are or if you are playing a game? Well this freeware program will help you to do just that. 

MSnap 0.2a is a simple application that allows you to grab screen captures of your handset.  However, this 0.2a version seems to be twitchier than the 0.1a version.  Though this 0.2a version presents a nicer interface and not the command window of its predecessor,  it seems to have more problems maintaining a connection with the handset.  If you don't need to see the picture as it is being "painted" by MSnap, I recommend using the 0.1a version (lot less frustrating).  Now with visual design and bug fixes!  Just connect your phone, start it, choose your USB cable or Bluetooth link, choose where to store the .png screenshot and press "Capture".

How-To:

• Plug your handset into your computer
• Start MSnap 0.2a
• Select your USB modem
• Click "capture" button and the capture process starts
• As the screen is captured, you will see the visual progress.  MSnap will look like it’s not capturing the entire screen, but it is
• when the capture is complete, look in the folder where you have the MSnap executable file and you’ll see a graphic file named “screenN.png (N being a number).  Example Screen1.png. As long as you execute the program from the same location, it will increase the number every time you capture an image.  If you move the MSnap executable to another folder, it will restart the numbering.
• You can convert the .png file to other file formats and post the images on the forums.
