At first I was slightly cautious when upgrading to this firmware...As the R25227LD_U_86.31.34P proved to be problematic...However this updated one has less problems and thanks to Famonaco most problems can be solved anyway (As discussed in the link above)

Anyway for the assesment of this firmware...I must say I was surprised by it. at first I thought it to be slow...But that was because I was uploading everything (a whole gig's worth) of things onto my 1gb Transflash through the phone...Which was the cause of the slowdown..The new firmware gives the phone added responsiveness, it is quite quick in performing various tasks... My personal favourite is how quickly the firmware can load songs...Instead of taking 7 seconds to load my 200+ song playlist it instead takes 1-2 seconds...Which is excellent... the same applies for SMS messaging...It is so responsive!  iTap or no iTap it is very quick to write a message almost to the point where the message writes itself!

The audio_db that famonaco has given out for the phone gives excellent sound quality through the headphones and no distortion through the loudspeaker which is excellent.  By default however there is some T-Mobile branding and also the lack of modifications...such as picture and video quality.  Easy SEEM fixes but by default they are on poor settings.  A new set of features for the internet explorere have been added...gone are the functions of pagedown (*) or pageup (#) but instead # is refresh page and * is full screen mode..full screen internet viewing is wonderful. pressing one effectivly zooms the page in if you can't read it and 3 zooms the page out whilst pressing 2 makes the page original size again...Quite fun amusing and good.

There is also the problems with the java games which famonaco has said works by formatting your Tf...this didnt work for me at all...they uninstall on restart...But this isnt a problem for me as I dont play games much and if I do its just a simple install as my games dont need to remember data.  Menu responsiveness is as always now excellent...Different skins give different responsiveness however but its all decent. Access to Translash I believe is slightly quicker, especiially when listening to music and looking at pictures.  However another downside is the fact that the no delay when listning to music and taking pictures as I descrivbed in the 9B firmware previously has gone and there is a noticable 2 second pause in music...A downer for me but the positives make me not care as much...

Anyway, as my conclusion I willl say that is a very good firmware...Just one has to be prepared to make their modifications again and see if they can get their heads around the problems...If one can do that, then the firmware is excellent, else it might not be bearable for the user...

Mods required to adapt this firmware for use: (famonaco)

1. Java apps: Remove TF card for flashing. Apps on the TF card will not work once the new firmware is installed. You must format the card via the phone after upgrading the firmware. Then, reinstall the java apps to the TF card.
2. Locked Web Session: Install the file that you find under and replace the existing websession file on your phone. Then edit seem 0032_0001 offset 2F bits 1 to 6 on (check each box). You will then be able to add new profiles.
3. Graphics bug: You can fix by modding seem 010a_0001 offset 0000. Change from 03 to 01.
4. SEEM 004e_0001 modified for maximum time on video rec: download
5. New fix for this firmware posted by stj2000online.  To fix the 176x144 video problem, edit seem 004а_0001, offset 19C, write 01
6. Change splash screen start up and power down: using p2kkommander above the gif click on right mouse and on attribute sign don't copy,reboot the mobile
7. To change Backlight timeout from 5, 10, 20 to 20, 40, 60 seconds:  set seem 0032_0001 offset 83 bit 1 to 1
8. To add Backlight timeout continuous:  set seem 0032_0001 offset 0A bit 7 to 1
9. To enable phone work in speaker mode with flip closed : seem 0032_0001 offset 8B bit 2 to 0

It's the latest firmware (9B.A1P), so this is a reflash with modded DRM's (as the title says)

It is just the firmware without the language pack and with no icons. It is pure reflash.

I have to say that I haven't tested the MP because I didn't want to lose all my settings. before flashing backup your phonebook and java games.

As for the reflash: it didn't delete my phonebook (it still works fine and I can edit the numbers, but make a backup in case something goes wrong) and everything is working fine after this. the java is still there and working properly.

It's the fastest firmware I've seen, faster than .9A.80R I think. About improvements in camera, video: I didn't have time to make day pictures.

Others: I don't know because it is just the firmware and no flex. I tested the reflash on my phone and it works fine. So you can  give it a try.

The camera now has a crosshair, also, the transparent blue line has disappeared...As in it still has the text and arrows transparently visible but the bar is now gone, allowing a better idea of what you are capturing...Video capture in terms of smoothness in motion is great. The speed of SMS typing whilst listening to music is fairly good... A slight imrpovement over the 9A in my opinion but I may just be assuming because its a new firmware so I just think everything is great   I must say menu access and selecting items etc seems to be instant (still listening to music)...Another plus is the picture clarity, its steadily imrpoving...On top of that, I'm still listening to music and the lag usually experienced whilst listening and processing the picture has been narrowed a fiar bit...Sometimes there is no lag at all which is an excellent sign, however sometimes it can still have the occasional jolt, yet not enough to throw one off the beat to the song.  So basically I see no downside in this upgrade, most things are only slight imrpovements but if it a baby step at a time, I'm still extremely satisfied...The only thing I'm really looking forward to is 3d acceleration and modified battery settings if  it lasts 7 days on a BC60...But much like the i398 dream of full screen video, it seems highly unlikely.

BIG PROBLEM with Monster Pack Only!:  Well…Cash7c3 and I can confirm what dkepler noted earlier (see below).  We have been examining the 85.9B.A1P Monster Pack together and we both had similar problems.  We both installed this MP on our phones.  The firmware loaded, started, and functioned OK--initially.  But for those of us in the States, there are issues.  Since the MP is optimized for Europe, when we started the phone, it indicated it couldn’t find any service.  Naturally we then went to Settings>Network>Network setup>Band to change the band from Band=European to a band we use in the States/elsewhere,  or "Automatic".  The phone immediately went into a perpetual power cycle (repeatedly turning itself on and off) and showing an intermittent white screen in the process.  Had no choice but to flash the phones from Boot Loader USB Transfer mode to recover them.  So, it appears that though this is a good MP for our European brethren, this Monster Pack poses problems for those of us that are not using European providers.  The Reflash is excellent and works without issue so suggest "others" use the 85.9B.A1P Reflash instead of the MP for now.  BTW:  The wallpaper included in the MP is very nice.

dkepler (9/6/06) noted:  One thing I noticed about the original R252211LD_U_85.9B.A1P_LP0039_DRM0001_FAQ4MobilesEdition_PsY is that when switching the network from Europe to Automatic, it crashed horribly. I insisted flashing that file & retried that particular setting and ended up with the same result, so I had to resort to an older flash & use Jason's reflash. Anyone else had this problem?

(Rasputin007):  The MP has been fine tuned for the german networks, so you get lots of WebSessions/MMS settings especially designed for the german provider market. But since I have a backup of my WebSession +Greeting (all FTR* and GSM files + websession file in a/), I just copied them over and hey presto back in business. Otherwise there is no fault I have found yet. But I must say that faq4mobiles (successor to Handy-FAQ) are trying to replicate a reported fault in Jason's reflash and they just can not do it, it always works.  You can also download this release using the download button below.

CONS:

• 1) bug in videocamera night mode only (not working for me)
• 2) no selection menu for sms type (unlike the 99.50R psy edition)
• 3) no preinstalled javas
• 4) no OEM videos
• 5) no websessions or mms settings So let's say that it has only 1 bug

To re-enable DAP simply use this flex: DAP ENABLER FLEX - THX 2 PSYCOMORPHER FOR THIS GREAT FLEX!!! Obviously it will delete ALL javas installed on phone's memory prior 2 flex .  Again... thx to my magical friend @MoMo for this release. - Alsitn
